Set within WW1, players will be fighting to keep their fellow soldiers alive. You’ll build up a small base, march out into the chaos and terror of battle, collect the injured and bring them back to the medical tents. With little resources and few hands ready to help, you’ll have to strategically work to ensure that everyone has a fighting chance of returning home.

Men of War II will put players into a WW2 RTS where you can battle against players online or go through an epic narrative-driven campaign. Players here will be using historically accurate weapons and equipment as they head to battle and attempt to demolish the competition. Meanwhile, the campaign is said to feature both the Allies and Soviets as the primary focus. Fortunately, we’re also going to get full mod support so players can get creative and design their own levels and scenarios for others to enjoy. At the moment, the game is only slated to release in 2022, but has yet to receive an official release date.
#16 Terra Nil
- Developer: Free Lives
- Publisher: Devolver Digital
- Platform: PC
- Release: NA
Terra Nil comes from the developers behind Gorn, Genital Jousting, and Broforce. This is actually quite a bit different from the games we’re used to seeing from this developer. It’s a relaxing city builder experience where you’re tossed into a barren wasteland. From there, you’ll have to figure out how to build up a paradise. This means crafting up fauna, lakes, rivers and eventually bringing back animals into the habitat. Of course, disaster can strike at any minute, leaving you to think on your feet in order to preserve your creation quickly.
#15 Stargate: Timekeepers
- Developer: CreativeForge
- Publisher: Slitherine

Stargate was a mega-hit franchise for both the film and television series. Now a new game is coming out. Stargate: Timekeepers is set after the seventh season of Stargate SG-1. Here we’ll get a new journey full of narrative-focused missions. Players will be leading a team of specialists to help Commander Eva McCain along with Eva’s team when a mission to help the Jaffra Resistance turns south. Now the team is stuck in a never-ending time loop. So far, we know that this is a single-player-focused game and that there will be a series of choices that will shape the storyline and outcomes. The Endless franchise will have a brand new installment coming out, called Endless Dungeon. This time around, we’re getting a rogue-lite tactical action game where players are teaming up to check out a long-abandoned space station. Unfortunately, the shipwrecked group will find that they are not alone on this space station as hostile alien species exist. So far, we haven’t seen too much of the game lately at the time of writing this game description. Likewise, we’re left waiting to see just when this game will hit the marketplace. However, fans of the Endless series are likely eager to dive into this next installment. Hopefully, when it does release, the IP will pick up more newcomers along with it.

Unfortunately, you’ll soon find that other factions have arrived as well. Now it’s an all-out war to acquire resources and expand your fleet. Much like other RTS games, there’s plenty of planning involved. You’ll need to acquire resources, build up your team and outposts. However, there’s always the competition around to seek resources from or venture into a battle for territory. Being in space, you’ll have different ships to use at your disposal. Line up shots, hide behind asteroids, go for supply chains, or pray that a shot ricochets off your hull and hits a target.

In this game, players will be commanding a group of troops as they are called into the planet of Kwalasha. Kwalasha is used as a mining facility after discovering precious resources lying beneath the planet’s surface. However, the production came to a halt after swarms of Arachnid emerged. So it’s up to players to figure out the right tactics, units to send, and abilities to use to defeat the evil parasite.
#11 Knights of Honor II: Sovereign
- Developer: Black Sea Games
- Publisher: THQ Nordic
- Platform: PC
- Release: NA
Knights of Honor is a pretty old title at this point. The game came out in 2004, and now we’re finally getting a sequel. This is another grand strategy game set in medieval times. Players here are taking the role of a King with the conquest of gaining control of Europe. Players will start off with a nation and attempt to overcome the different challenges and obstacles that pop up in your way. It’s up to you in how you rule your people. Whether you’re out for war, striking up a strategic alliance, diplomacy, or religious control, the pathway to a prosperous victory is up to you. At the moment, we’re still waiting for an actual release date to get attached to this game. Developers have been highlighting different aspects of the gameplay this past year, and we’re sure that will continue throughout 2022. We’re just hoping that 2022 will also be the year we’ll get to enjoy Knights of Honor II: Sovereign.
#10 Old World
- Developer: Mohawk Games
- Publisher: Hooded Horse
- Platform: PC
- Release: 2022
Old World is an upcoming 4X strategy game centered around generations of dynasty building. Players will start out with a simple kingdom and attempt to see the family lineage you create last well beyond your own years. Then, you’ll attempt to form alliances, create families, pick out specific characters to take charge of various aspects of your kingdom, and build up a grand nation. There’s a bit of randomization in this game as well so that each playthrough will offer a bit of a fresh take. For instance, the developers have noted that technological advancements are not predetermined. We also know that the developers are open to mods to help further build up this game post-launch. At the moment, we should get this title at some point this year, but so far, no specific release date has been unveiled.
#9 Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters
- Developer: Complex Games
- Publisher: Frontier Foundry
- Platform: PC
- Release: 2022
Another Warhammer 40,000 game is coming out this year with Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters. This is a reboot video game from an earlier installment to the franchise, 1998’s Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate. In this game, players command Grey Knights, essentially space marines, as they battle against the Nurgle. With the threat of a deadly plague called the Bloom being released out into the galaxy, players are fighting for humanity’s survival. So far, we know that this will be a turn-based strategy game, although right now, it’s only slated to launch this year. With that said, the developers have been keeping players informed through various updates such as YouTube. We recently got a showcase of the different enemy showcases you’ll be battling against, whether that’s the Poxwalker to the Helebrute. These bite-sized videos offer a better look at their design and the abilities they’ll have to use against players.
#8 Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
- Developer: Ubisoft
- Publisher: Ubisoft
- Platform: NS
- Release: 2022
If you enjoyed the first Mario + Rabbids game, get ready for a new installment this year. Ubisoft is delivering the crossover turn-based strategy game again. This time around, we’re following a narrative where a character called Cursa has been taking energy from the titular sparks. However, this has caused the galaxy to go into complete chaos. In hopes of restoring peace, Mario and his friends must track down and defeat Cursa. This is a lot like Kingdom Battle, so the gameplay should be familiar to you. However, the levels will be more open and not grid-based. That ultimately means that there is a bit more freedom of movement in this installment.
#7 Dune: Spice Wars
- Developer: Shiro Games
- Publisher: Funcom, Shiro Games
- Platform: PC
- Release: 2022 Early Access
If you enjoy the Dune franchise, a 4X RTS game called Dune: Spice Wars is coming out this year. Here in this game, we’re leading a faction within the desert world of Arrakis. The goal is to control the Spice resource and thrive. However, you have other factions, troops, and beasts to take out to stay on top. While you’ll be able to explore, gather resources, search for different interesting locations, and battle for territory, we won’t be getting the full game this year. Instead, the developers are pushing this game out into early access, so some features and content won’t be available until post-launch. With that said, we don’t have a release date for this early access title either. For now, we just have to wait and see when we’ll be diving into Arrakis later on this year.
#6 Homeworld 3
- Developer: Blackbird Interactive
- Publisher: Gearbox Publishing
- Platform: PC
- Release: 2022
Homeworld got its start all the way back in 1999, and this year we’re slated to receive Homeworld 3. This RTS is making a return and will feature a narrative that’s set after the events of Homeworld 2. Several years have passed, and while there have been spurts of war, the real danger now has shown its face. The Hyperspace Gate Network is starting to fail, and the only hope there is left out there is tracking down Karan. We know that the developers are planning a co-op mode to allow players to go through the campaign. Otherwise, players can enjoy this game as a solo experience. Unfortunately, the game is not slated to release until the end of 2022 right now, so that could very well mean that this game might get pushed out of this year.
#5 Company of Heroes 3
- Developer: Relic Entertainment
- Publisher: Sega
- Platform: PC
- Release: NA
After waiting for a good long while, we finally have a new upcoming Company of Heroes game. The previous installment, Company of Heroes 2, was released back in 2013. So now players can potentially get their hands on a new Company of Heroes real-time strategy video game set within World War II later this year. In particular, we know that this installment will be featuring the Italian and North African theaters. So far, we know a Tactical Pause System is coming for Company of Heroes 3. With this new feature, players will be able to pause the game and string together commands to trigger after resuming the game. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this description, Company of Heroes 3 is only slated to release in late 2022. Ultimately, that could end up meaning the title won’t be available until sometime in 2023, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
#4 Manor Lords
- Developer: Slavic Magic
- Publisher: Slavic Magic
- Platform: PC
- Release: NA
Manor Lords is a medieval strategy and management game. This title puts players in control of a medieval kingdom where you’re able to build up your town with different buildings, craft pathways on the lands, and upkeep the farmlands to ensure you’re stocked with food. However, some battles will come into play which will be more realistic. So far, the developer behind the project is promising that each battle will have several elements that will help play a big role in the outcome. For instance, your troops will not only need direction for the formations, but there is potential for fatigue, the equipment being used, and even weather conditions. As a result, it looks like if you’re skilled enough, you can lead a small force to overtake a larger army.
#3 Marvel’s Midnight Suns
- Developer: Firaxis Games
- Publisher: 2K Games
- Platform: PS4, NS, X/S, PC, PS5, XBO
- Release: 2022
Gamescom 2021 saw the official announcement of a new tactical RPG set within the Marvel universe. This is a game based on the Rise of the Midnight Sons comic book series from the 1990s. However, it’s not a complete retelling. So far, we know that the game will put players into the role of The Hunter, a new hero that was crafted up for this game. Overall, the narrative will follow The Hunter along with other iconic Marvel superheroes as they attempt to stop Lilith, a monstrous demonic enemy that Hydra awakened. Since The Hunter is the child of Lilith, you’re the only hope of stopping the character from destroying humanity. If you enjoy tactical strategy games, you might want to keep tabs on this release. It’s coming from Firaxis Games, the folks behind XCOM and Civilization titles.
#2 Total War: Warhammer III
- Developer: Creative Assembly
- Publisher: Sega, Feral Interactive
- Platform: PC
- Release: February 17, 2022
After waiting for a few years, we are getting a new mainline Total War: Warhammer installment this year. This is the conclusion to the Total War: Warhammer trilogy where players are going to the Realm of Chaos. We’re still waiting a bit for more information to come out, but there is a bump up from the four factions that you might be used to. Instead, Total War: Warhammer III will be coming out with six different factions, including the four Chaos Gods and Kislev and Cathay. Likewise, we know that the map will be pretty large compared to previous installments, so there’s even more content for you and your friends to progress through. With all that said, this is still a turn-based, real-time tactics game that will take place in the Realm of Chaos, the source of all magic.
#1 Frostpunk 2
- Developer: 11 Bit Studios
- Publisher: 11 Bit Studios
- Platform: PC
- Release: NA
Frostpunk was successful when it launched. Players had to command a small colony of survivors through the harsh never-ending winter storm. Our group creates a small town based around a giant coal generator with their only hope of survival. Essentially, this allowed the town to get heat and power as well. However, it required very tough decisions to mine resources and send out groups to scavenge the area. Players would also make a series of choices in how you lead your colony, and if you proved to no longer be popular with your settlement, the town would revolt and mutiny against you. Now a sequel is in the works. We’re still dealing with the same setting, but we are trading in coal for oil extraction. Players can likely expect more challenging gameplay and morally tough choices to be presented to keep their citizens alive.
