PETERSBURG – Summerfield’s girls basketball team was playing the second of back-to-back games Saturday night, but Destanee Smith’s legs certainly didn’t look tired.
The senior guard scored 21 points and had 8 steals to lead the Bulldogs to a 66-37 victory over Dundee.
“Destanee Smith was just awesome on both ends of floor,” Summerfield coach Mickey Moody said. “She was 8-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, She was just everywhere tonight.”
Ava Fisher added 14 points, Abby Haller racked up 8 points 7 assists and 7 rebounds and Mia Miller 8 points and 7 rebounds as Summerfield moved to 5-1.
Dundee is off to a 1-5 start.
“Until we learn to control the turnovers and put the ball in the basket more, we are going to struggle,” Dundee coach Josh Salley said. “We’ll keep working on it. We have some young players and all just need to come together as a team. We’ll get there.”
Faith Stahl led the Vikings with 9 points.

Slow start for Jefferson
Jefferson managed just seven baskets in the game while Riverview Gabriel Richard was pouring in seven 3-pointers on the way to a 34-21 victory.
The Bears trailed 14-6 after one quarter and 23-8 at the half.
Ellie Hintz led 4-2 Jefferson with 9 points.

Airport falls at home
CARLETON – A good Brighton team forced 11 turnovers in the first half in jumping out to a 33-16 halftime lead and spoiled Airport’s home opener 66-41 Saturday night.
“We started out in the first quarter with energy, but we quickly ran out of gas,” Airport coach Jason Ruhlig said. “Playing back-to-back games against two very formidable opponents in Flat Rock and Brighton left us with some tired legs as the game wore on.”
Brandon McComas led the 1-4 Jets with 10 points.
Airport also lost the junior varsity game 77-22 and the freshman contest 67-10.
